March of the Monarchs | Celebrating the 1942 Kansas City Monarchs Champions #MonarchsHaveHeart

Eighty years ago, the Kansas City Monarchs wore their hearts on their sleeves and won the 1942 Negro Leagues World Series. To celebrate that historic occasion, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (NLBM) is encouraging the public to join us for the “March of the Monarchs,” 11 am, Saturday, May 7th and help us give the 1942 World Series Champions the celebration they never received. It’s an idea that stems from the tradition of a marching band leading Monarchs fans from 18th and Vine to 22nd and Brooklyn on opening day but this time, we’ll reverse the route.

The FREE family event starts at 11 am at Monarch Plaza (corner of 22nd and Brooklyn) and will end at the NLBM where the celebration will continue with live entertainment, food trucks, mascots, yard games, and more.

Shuttle service will be provided from the NLBM to Monarch Plaza. RSVP is encouraged for the shuttle. Register by Friday, April 22 and we’ll enter you into a drawing for some great prizes.

Saturday May 7th FAQ’s – Things To Know

• Reminder: Register for the walk by Friday, April 22 and you’re automatically entered into a great prize drawing that includes a chance to win a Monarchs jersey.
• Attire: Kansas City Monarch gear is encouraged! Kansas City Monarchs Shirts and Caps can be purchased inside the Extra Innings Gift Shop inside the NLBM.
• Festival: Live entertainment, food, mascots, yard games, and more will be available. Plus, free NLBM admission for kids participating in the walk.
• Restrooms: Porta Potties and Bathrooms Inside the Museums at 18th and Vine will be available.
• Parking: Use the following locations: – Buck O’Neil Education and Research Center.

– The 18th and Vine Parking Lot.

– Along 18th Street West of Paseo.

– Shuttle Service: Starts at the NLBM at 10:00 AM.

– Secure your spot: Your RSVP accounts for your spot on the shuttle.
