PHOENIX (May 6, 2025) — Republic Services, Inc. (NYSE: RSG) and the Republic Services Charitable Foundation today announced a grant of $100,000 to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Mo. The funding supports two key preservation projects: the revitalization of the future home of the Buck O’Neil Education & Research Center and ongoing maintenance of Monarch Plaza, the former site of Municipal Stadium.

“At Republic Services, one of our core values is being human-centered, which means respecting the dignity and unique potential of everyone,” said Larson Richardson, Republic Services senior vice president, operations. “The story of the Negro Leagues embodies resilience, excellence and progress. Through this grant, we are proud to help preserve this history for future generations.”

The grant will support the Buck O’Neil Education & Research Center (BOERC), an expansion of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum housed in the historic Paseo YMCA. In 1920, this landmark building was the site where Black baseball team owners, led by Andrew “Rube” Foster, founded the Negro National League. Once restored, the BOERC will feature more than 40,000 square feet of archival materials, exhibits, educational areas and conference facilities, offering visitors, students and researchers the opportunity to explore the Negro Leagues’ history and impact.

Republic Services’ support also will help maintain Monarch Plaza at 22nd and Brooklyn, the former home of the Kansas City Monarchs. Though the original stadium no longer stands, the plaza serves as a lasting tribute to the great baseball players, including Jackie Robinson, who once called it home.

“The Negro Leagues represent everything that America aspires to be,” said Bob Kendrick, president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. “We wholeheartedly believe that by sharing its story, our children will gain a deeper understanding of history and its struggles and triumphs. Partnering with Republic Services on these projects is a tremendous show of support to our organization and our community.”

As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting the communities it serves, Republic Services hosted a Day of Service volunteer event for its employees to assist with a project at Monarch Plaza. Another Republic Services Day of Service is planned for the Buck O’Neil Education & Research Center.
